This is Paul Robinson completing the First Ascent of the Mandala Direct Assis (V14) the Buttermilks at Bishop, CA. What is the difference between this problem and Tony Lamiche’s sit-start “Mandalion“?
This is Dave Graham climbing “The Mandala” at the Buttermilks, Bishop CA. This is the second ascent of the Chris Sharma classic from 2002. Five years later Dave would come back and do Tony Lamiche‘s sit-start “Mandalion“.
This is Chris Sharma’s FA on ‘The Mandala’ V12 from 1999. A must have for my ‘The Mandala’ collection.

Awhile back I posted about Lisa Rands first female ascent of Chris Sharma’s Buttermilks, Bishop, CA Problem “The Mandala” a V12. Here is the video.
The Mandala is a boulder problem in The Buttermilks, which is a popular bouldering area near Bishop, California.
The problem climbs a steep prow on a large granite boulder and was considered a great project for many years before it was first climbed by Chris Sharma in early 2000. This ascent received much acclaim in the climbing community. Although Sharma did not rate the problem (jokingly, he stated that if he did, it would have been V16)[citation needed], it was thought by many to be hard V14 in the bouldering grading system.
Over time, however, the grade was consolidated at V11 or V12. Since the first ascent, several holds have broken including one of the crux holds. The problem is now thought to be soft V12.
